First-Time Scuba Diving in Thailand: What to Expect

From pool sessions to your first open-water dive — a practical guide for newcomers booking with us.

June 1, 2026

Thailand is one of the best places in the world to try scuba diving for the first time. Warm water, gentle conditions, and experienced instructors make it easy to feel confident underwater. What your first day looks like Most Discover Scuba Diving experiences start with a short briefing on the boat or at the dive centre. You learn how the equipment works, how to clear your mask, and how to communicate with hand signals. Then you practise in shallow water before heading to a calm reef site. What we provide We supply a full set of gear — mask, fins, BCD, regulator, and wetsuit. Bring a swimsuit, reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, and any personal medication you may need. If you wear contact lenses, let your instructor know; many divers prefer a prescription mask. Who can join You should be comfortable in the water and generally healthy. Some medical conditions require a doctor’s clearance before diving. Our team will walk you through the medical questionnaire when you book.
