Course days on day trips: students take a seat on the boat, day by day

Courses are planned onto real departures, liveaboard add-ons continue on day trips, and every course day counts toward boat capacity.

Dive courses are taught on the boats you already run. A three-day Open Water student joins three day trips in a row, and a diver on a short liveaboard may need an extra day trip afterwards to finish an add-on course. Until now, a course booking said when it started, but not which boat the student was on each day.

NineDive now plans each course day onto an actual departure:

  • A course booked on its own places the student on consecutive day trips from the start date
  • A course added to a day trip starts on that trip and continues on the following day trips, on the same boat where possible
  • A course added to a liveaboard runs during the liveaboard, and any remaining days go on day trips after it, marked as extra day trips
  • If no departure with space is found for a day, it is flagged so the team can place it

What the team sees

  • Course students count toward capacity in the schedule, so a full boat stays full
  • Check-in manifests list them with a “Course · day 2 of 3” tag
  • Each course day is checked in separately

When plans change

Students get sick, and the weather closes sites. A single course day can be moved to another date, a day and all later days can move together, or a day can be skipped until the student is ready to continue. Each change records the reason (sick, weather or other), a note, and who made it. Rescheduling is done from the NineDive mobile app, which is coming soon.

Why it matters

Course students use the same seats as fun divers. When every course day is tied to a departure, the boat’s numbers, the manifest and the instructor’s plan all agree.
